They are the most loyal animals. They love you unconditionally. They are absolutely adorable. They are man’s best friend…
The domestication of dogs came from the grey wolf about fifteen thousand years ago. Throughout history dogs have become a necessary part of human growth and success. Without them, we would lose the innate sense of companionship that has become an integrated part of our society. Today, dogs look and act much differently, they have become the animals we cannot live without!
Dogs are used in many types of therapy. Dogs are often used for treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, or comfort for the terminally ill patients in hospitals. Golden Retrievers are most commonly used in therapy because of their friendliness, gentle demeanor, and calm disposition. Therapy dogs often reside in hospitals, nursing homes, retirement homes, and schools. They are also commonly used to assist the handicap, guiding their owners through their daily activities. Also, many times a year, it is the family dog who wakes up the family to escape from a burning home, or alerts the family of a dangerous intruder.
While different breeds vary from owner loyalty and friendship attributes, one thing is for sure, the dog is man’s best friend. Whether it was their hunting and gathering skills, their herding, or pulling load skills, dogs were a huge help long before industrialization. Today, they assist with police, home protection, handicap aids, companionship, and still remain crucial to the agricultural industry as well.
